Preliminary Planning: The firm can help during the preliminary planning, estimating and bidding of potential PEMB projects by reviewing the scope of work, giving advice pertaining to design issues and providing preliminary foundation sizes. Today’s trend toward design-build means having a senior structural engineer and team that are thoroughly experienced with PEMBs.
Building Design: The firm can serve as the Engineer of Record (EOR) for:
In addition to serving as the EOR on the project, the firm can frequently serve as the Prime Design Professional on storage/shell buildings, office/warehouse buildings, industrial buildings and similar projects where the architectural design work is considered ‘incidental’ to the project (the current requirement in Virginia). For projects where the architecture is not ‘incidental’ to the project, an architect is required and the firm can refer you to the Architect of our choice or work with your Architect.
Regarding energy code conformance, the code required insulations for the building envelope can be investigated via the Comcheck software (see graphic). Investigating insulations during a project bidding phase can be a major cost advantage.
Construction: The firm typically provides shop drawing review and periodic inspections as part of code required Special Inspections Program. We generate the Special Inspection forms electronically, expediting the building permit approval process. Shop drawing submittal and approval is also done electronically, keeping the submittal turn around time to a minimum.
States Currently Licensed To Practice: Mr. Williams is currently licensed to practice in VA, NC and MD.
